Why are They Queuing to Camp the Bukit Asah?

Updated: Aug 5, 2021

Since the moment Covid 19 were introduced to be deadly, at the same time, hospitality businesses got knocked out. And, the idea of staying overnight in the camping ground giving new hope to wanderlusts.

The view from VIP section at the BABC

Unlike in the hotel, camping is considered to be safer to stay since the tents are set on the outdoor with reasonable distance to each other.

BABC Layout

After riding for about 10 minutes from the main road you will reach a point where there are some food stalls on the roadside.

On the lower ground, facing directly to the ocean, about 100m asl, is the campervans site.

Enter the concrete small access and keep driving for about 150 meters, you will arrive in its parking lot. Now you will see some tents are readily set on the terracing ground. It spreads out to the ocean and each of them will, for sure, got interesting views.

You got to beat some staircases to reach its reception office. Anything from this level and up to the parking lot is where they set the VIP tents. Individual and own tents are set from here down to the tip of the rocky cliffs.

They got two units of permanent tents that take place on the north side of the reception office, overlooking to the white sandy beaches.

Logistics and other equipments

VIP tents are lining between Reception and the Warung

Yes, this camping is designed to fit easy campers; those who don't bother with preparation and tools. What you need to prepare is reasonable amount of clothes, especially if you will do something else apart from being in the tent all the times.

VIP tent got mattress and pillow, power socket, outside lighting and a set of table with long chair.

Matress and pillow are not provided for individual tent. But the management is happy to provide one at additional cost, 50k/mattress.

Do not over equip yourself with blanket! Most of the times the temperature varies between 24 to 33 degrees. It is wise to bring just a sweater, just in case.

Many campers bring along their portable speaker system. I myself rather stay blank without artificial sounds. We are there in the nature and experience what nature could offer instead of bringing your home routine here. Even though I don't mind listening to Lionel Richie's Stuck on You from adjacent campers.

Hungry campers

Do not expect luxury meal on site. Campers got to adapt themselves with something simple, at least when you are in the camping mood.

Neither McDonald nor Burger King are available within long drive. However, they got some warungs open during the day and one of them stay open 24/7. Their menu varies from instant noodle, Tipat Cantok (combination of rice cake, beansprouts, bean curd and bean cake in peanut sauce), fried rice, snacks, infamous Bintang beer and soft drinks.

The Warung that offers snacks, soft drinks and other light meals

BABC offers Megibung that I recommend you to experience it at least once while you are here. Megibung is a traditional way of life where a group of people are sharing a reasonable size of meal together. The meal will be placed on the table (most of the time on the ground with banana leaf as base) that consist of rice and various companions i.e. soup, satay (skewer), bean cake and veggies. Either an iced tea or bottled water is included in the package.

Proper restaurants are available between 10 to 20 minutes drive, which is the Candidasa areas.

Bring your own food if you are on specific diet program!

Other things to do while you are here

Virgin beach, about 1 km from camping ground

Why don't you roll down the beach since it is located even less than 1 km? The white sandy beaches that better known as Virgin Beach is home to hundreds local fishermen. You can do something interesting such as swimming, sunset cruise and fishing.

If you are passionate to walk then trekking is highly recommended. Ignite your endorphin from walking while enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way. [H]
